Confessions Of A Google Fanboy...

I admit it, I'm a google fanboy... I'm just as bad as the iphone user with 1/2 bar of reception telling everyone If I have 1/2 of a bar it's because Apple wants me to have 1/2 a bar and it's because I'm holding the phone wrong.

This morning I had a fit and tried to quit Google Buzz... It didn't work. Apparently my buzz profile will  remain in infamy forever. Realizing this I went ahead and reconnected it here at Amplify. It's no longer in my in-box and I guess that will have to be good enough.

I started buzzing the very moment buzz was available. I was one of the people who checked my inbox again and again as the update came out to see if it was available for my account yet.. what about now? Is it there now? Refresh.. refresh...

I buzzed and buzzed.... I followed, and unfollowed,... I watched my follower list go from 10 to 100 to 1000 to 1500... My box slowed down so I unfollowed about 800. Then I started adding them back a few at a time like salt and pepper to clam chowder.

My contacts grew to the point that they over-whelmed my Motorola Droid. I down-loaded my contacts, I grabbed an editor and deleted all of the buzz profiles from my contacts. I uploaded my contacts only to find that deleting the profiles had deleted the people I was following.

I deleted all of my contacts again and then restored the contact list back to original. It didn't work. So I looked at the profiles of the people I followed and hunted for familiar posters.. I added and added.

At this point my posts became completely uninteresting and people stopped commenting, or my posts quit posting, or people started to fall away from buzz. I would do a buzz search and find nothing that was current. I started to see my posts show up in my stream under other peoples names. I didn't, and don't care. I was just surprised to see my boring ass, lame content pirated. When people start stealing my drivel then we are definitely at the bottom of the barrel.

Then re-post became available and this seemed to put the final nail in the coffin of original content. Then the iphone 4 came out and it became 90% of my buzz stream. Then the Google Me rumor came out and my Buzz Stream was swallowed by it too.

So this morning the markets are very active and note-worhty. I jump on the buzz to see what anyone has to say about it. NO ONE HAS anything to say about it. I do a buzz search and pull up hundreds of adds from spammers, but not one single person who even happens to be watching the markets let alone commenting on it. The stream breaks down to Iphone, a telephone pole, a few flirt posts to attract the creepy foreigners, (you so sexy too) and that damn Google Rumor...

I looked at 100 posts and there was nothing.. NOTHING.

My Buzz Stream had actually deteriorated past the point of facebook.

Now I want to make it clear that this post is not about slamming buzz users or buzz people, hell it's not even about slamming buzz, I have met some people on there who actually struggle to interact, to teach, to converse, and to learn, but 2 out of five hundred simply is too frustrating for me.

I hope one day a service exists that promotes real-time social interaction, information exchange, and all that good stuff. I hoped it would be buzz.  I can't say it never will be buzz. But I can say it's not buzz today.
